Have you ever thought about the feedback you can get after your lesson?
There was a time when I didn't think much about such
topics because I considered it as unimportant. When I only started
teaching English, I thought everyone would love it at once, because I have so
much information to give out to others. I had been studying the language for
five long years at the university, it would be impossible to fail a class. I
know that you're smiling now, because I'm laughing at myself too.
To provide an interesting class is not the difficult
task if you understand the needs of your students. Working mostly with adults
I’ve learnt to put my students purposes above my educational goals. Motivation
to study is very personal and the only thing you can do is to increase students’
motivation.
While setting the goals for your lesson, ask yourself
such questions:
- What will students practice learn after this class?
- How am I going to practice the material I want my
students to know?
- What activities are the students good\bat at?
- How am I going to improve weak activities?
- What am I aimed at during the class?
Having set clear objectives before you, spend
some time choosing interesting and useful material.
- Pay attention for your students to be interested in the topic and vocabulary you choose for studying. If you see your students are bored, try to find out the reason. If it is connected with material somehow, switch to different activity.
- Check your word list twice before going to the class. In case, it is too easy, there will be to study those words. In opposite situation, students can get demotivated to learn it.
- Teaching grammar material it's better to provide the simplest explanation. Only few people will remember them all. Provide more practice activities.
- Reading and listening shouldn't be long. Otherwise, you will spend too much time on them, but there will be not enough time for practicing the words and phrases after it. Try to discuss what you have read or heard together or in groups.
The best way to get a positive feedback after the class
is to prepare your lesson plan thoroughly!!!
