Personally I love using different videos at the class. It’s an amazing tool to get your students involved into discussion and you don’t need special skills to provide an energetic class.
Tips for better lesson:
- Choose a video and wrap it into a topic. Add some flavor to your lesson. Let me compare it with a good meal. Imagine yourself being extremely hungry and entering a restaurant, you ask for a table and take your place. What do you expect next? I think you’ll wait for some snacks before the main course and then a dessert after it. It’s the same with a lesson: provide some snacks before the main course in forms of questions, creative tasks, and drill exercises for vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation. Don’t forget about the dessert: role play, discussion club, problem solving task, etc.
- Video should have clear message and be short enough to watch it and discuss it. Too long even interesting videos are quite difficult to percept and focus on.
- Develop a habit to give students a written home task after watching any video. It will help to improve their skills in writing.
What to choose?
There is a lot of staff to show to your students but there are some videos that give real food for thought and for a hot discussion during the class. My personal discovery was a website they call it ‘fun theory’. The main idea of it is fun can change the world for better influencing the behavior of people.
I recommend you to several videos and believe me you will love it!!
P.S. You can learn more about this project on their website The Fun Theory, find some other videos and much more ideas for discussion))))
