Rules for adding -(e)s ending

There're few very simple rules for adding -(e)s  endings. Mostly they are about spelling.

So here we go!!!

While adding -(e)s look carefully at the final letter of a verb. It hepls to understand whether to use -es or just -s is enough in Present Simple.

  • ending in consonant:
    • drink - drinks
    • swim - swims
    • talk - talks
  • ending in -e: 
    • love - loves
    • move - moves
    • practise - practises
  • ending in -ch, -tch, -sh, -ss, -x (-es is pronounced as /iz/):
    • teach - teaches
    • watch - watches
    • wish - wishes
  • ending in -y:
    • try - tries
    • fry - fries
    • cry - cries
      • play - plays
      • annoy - annoys
      • convey - conveys
  • ending in -o:
    • go - goes
    • do - does
    • echo - echoes
